What is website design and development?
- Design shapes how the site looks and works.
- Development builds it on a platform.
- Speed, mobile layout and search setup belong in the build.
Website design and development is the work of planning, designing and building a website so that it looks right, works smoothly and does a job for the business. Design decides how the site looks and how people move through it. Development turns that design into a working site on a platform such as WordPress, Shopify or Next.js. See WordPress Development for sites built on WordPress.
The two parts depend on each other. A well-designed page that loads slowly loses visitors, and a fast page with a confusing layout does not turn visitors into enquiries. Good projects start with the business: who the website is for, what visitors should do, and how the site will be found.
A modern business website also has to work on every device, load quickly, be set up for search engines and report how it is performing. Those belong in the build, not in a list of extras. For the search side, see SEO. For online shops, see E-commerce Website Development.
Why a professionally built website pays off.
A website is the one channel you fully own.
It is where people check you
Customers, partners and candidates often look at a website before they get in touch. A clear, credible site answers their questions before they ask.
It works around the clock
A website can explain your offer, answer common questions and take enquiries when your team is not available.
It makes you easy to find
A site built with search in mind lets people discover your business through SEO as well as by name.
It is a channel you control
Social platforms change their rules and reach. A website is yours, with its own address, design and visitor data.
It supports every other channel
Ads, social posts, emails and referrals all point people to the website. If it is slow or unclear, those channels work harder for less.
It shows what works
With analytics connected, you can see which pages people visit and where they leave, and improve from evidence.

WordPress, Shopify or Next.js: which fits?
Each platform suits different projects. This is a general guide; the right choice depends on the business and the website.
| Aspect | WordPress | Shopify | Next.js |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best suited to | Content-led and business websites, blogs and company sites | Online stores that sell products | Custom, performance-focused websites and web applications |
| Managing content | A familiar dashboard for editing pages and posts | A store admin for products, orders and pages | Depends on the content system it is connected to |
| Selling online | Possible with add-ons for shops | Built in from the start | Possible with integrations or custom development |
| Customization | Wide, through themes, plugins and custom code | Within the platform, through themes and apps | The widest, with developers building exactly what is needed |
| Upkeep | Core, theme and plugin updates need regular attention | Hosting and platform security are handled by Shopify | Handled by the development team and the hosting setup |

What a website that brings in enquiries needs.
A checklist for any business website, whoever builds it.
- A clear message at the top of the page: what you do and who it is for
- Fast-loading pages, especially on a phone
- A layout that works on mobile, tablet and laptop
- One obvious next step on every page, such as a contact button
- Real proof: client names, contact details and honest descriptions
- Search basics in place: titles, descriptions, headings and a sitemap
- Analytics connected, so you can see what visitors do
- Accessible design: readable text, good contrast and keyboard-friendly navigation
The free website audit checks several of these on your current site.

Website terms, explained.
Plain definitions for the words you will hear in a web project.
- Responsive design
- A design that adjusts its layout to the screen it is shown on, from phone to widescreen.
- CMS
- A content management system: the tool your team uses to edit pages without writing code. WordPress is one.
- Wireframe
- A simple page layout, without colour or images, used to agree the structure before design begins.
- UX and UI
- UX is how a website feels to use. UI is how it looks. UI/UX Design covers both.
- Hosting
- The service that stores your website and delivers it to visitors.
- HTTPS
- The secure connection that protects data between a visitor and your site. Browsers warn visitors when it is missing.
- Core Web Vitals
- Google's measures of real-world page experience: loading speed, responsiveness and visual stability.
- Staging site
- A private copy of the website used to test changes before they go live.

Website mistakes worth avoiding.
Heavy images and slow pages
Large, uncompressed images are a common reason pages load slowly, and visitors leave slow pages.
Designing for desktop first
Many visitors arrive on a phone. A site that only works well on a laptop loses them.
No clear next step
If visitors have to hunt for how to contact you, many will not.
Thin or copied content
Pages with little useful text, or text copied from elsewhere, are hard to find and hard to trust.
Skipping analytics
Without measurement, you are guessing which pages work.
No plan after launch
Websites need updates, backups and improvements. Website Maintenance & Optimization keeps a site healthy.

Questions, answered.
Who is website design and development for?
Startups, D2C brands, e-commerce businesses, and small and medium businesses. It suits new businesses launching online as well as established ones improving their digital presence.
How long does a website project take?
It depends on the website. We spend about a week on requirements, and delivery takes at least two weeks, including full QA and sanity testing.
How many pages can my website have?
Most websites have 20 to 30 pages, not counting blog posts. We can build up to 50 pages or more.
Which platforms do you build on?
We build on WordPress, Shopify and Next.js.
Can you redesign my existing website?
Yes. We redesign existing websites as well as building new ones.
Will my website work on mobile and tablet?
Yes. Every website we build is fully responsive across mobile, tablet and laptop.
Is SEO included?
Yes. Full SEO setup is part of every website project, and we connect Google Search Console, Google Analytics and Meta to your website.
What happens after my website goes live?
Hosting is free for the first year and maintenance is free for the first month. After that, both are paid. If you want ongoing care, Website Maintenance & Optimization is available.
Do you train our team?
Yes, if you need it.
How much does a website cost?
Website projects start at ₹30,000. We agree the scope with you around the work you need.
What is the difference between web design and web development?
Web design decides how a website looks and how people use it: layout, colour, type and flow. Web development builds it so it works: the code, the platform and the features. A good website needs both.
What is a CMS, and do I need one?
A CMS, or content management system, lets your team edit pages, posts and images without writing code. If you plan to update your website yourself, you need one. WordPress and Shopify both include one.
Should I redesign my website or improve what I have?
If the site is slow, hard to use on a phone or no longer reflects the business, a redesign usually makes sense. If the structure is sound, targeted fixes to speed, content and search setup may be enough. A free website audit is a good first look.
Why does website speed matter?
Visitors leave pages that load slowly, and search engines take page experience into account. Speed is part of how Domeq builds every website, with a performance score target of 90 or higher.
