How ready is your website? Tick through and find out.

This interactive checklist covers 25 things a website needs across five groups: goal and content, design and use, search, speed, and trust. Tick what is true and it gives a score and points to the group that needs the most work. Your ticks stay in your browser.

0% ready0 of 25 items ticked. Just starting.

Just starting

Plenty to do, and that is normal. Begin with the first group and work down.

Fewest ticks: Goal and content.

Goal and content
Design and use
Search and visibility
Speed and technical
Trust and legal

Your ticks are saved in this browser only, and are never sent to Domeq.

How to use it.

  1. 01

    Go group by group

Five groups of five. Read each item honestly, and tick it only if it is true today.

  2. 02

    Check the real thing

Where an item says to test, such as a form, actually test it. Looking is not the same as checking.

  3. 03

    Read the score

The score and the group with the fewest ticks show where your effort will count most.

  4. 04

    Come back

Your ticks are saved on this device, so you can return after you have made fixes.

Why check readiness at all?

Most website problems are not clever. A form that does not send, a page that nobody can find in a menu, a leftover instruction that tells search engines to ignore the site. They persist because nobody sat down and checked.

A checklist turns a vague worry into a list. It works before a launch, after a redesign, and as a yearly review. It is not a full audit: for a quick technical read of a live page, use the free website audit, and for the routine afterwards see the maintenance checklist.

Good habits

  • Do the checklist with someone who does not work on the site, because they will notice what you no longer see
  • Test on a real phone, on a mobile connection, not only on a desktop screen
  • Fix the Fix-first items before polishing anything else: indexing, forms, HTTPS and the mobile layout
  • Repeat it after every major change and at least once a year
  • Write down who owns each fix and by when

Questions, answered.

What does a website need before it is ready to launch?

A clear goal and accurate content, a design that works on a phone, pages set up for search, fast loading with HTTPS and analytics, and basic trust and legal pages. This checklist covers those five groups.

How is the readiness score worked out?

It is the share of items you have ticked, as a percentage. Every item counts the same, and the group with the fewest ticks is shown so you know where to start.

Does a 100 percent score mean my website is perfect?

No. It means every item on this list is done. The list covers the common essentials, not every possible improvement, and it cannot judge the quality of your writing or design.

Where are my ticks stored?

In your own browser, on your own device. They are not sent to Domeq or any other server, and clearing your browser data removes them.

How often should I repeat the checklist?

After every big change, such as a redesign or a new platform, and at least once a year. For routine care in between, follow the monthly and quarterly tasks in the maintenance checklist.
